About

hhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, commonly known as CSMVS, is one of Mumbai's prominent museums and heritage landmarks. Located in the historic Kala Ghoda area of Fort, the museum offers visitors an opportunity to explore India's rich history, art, culture, and heritage.

The museum was established in 1922 and was formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India. Its collections cover a wide range of subjects, including archaeology, Indian art, decorative arts, miniature paintings, sculptures, coins, textiles, and historical objects.

The building itself is an important part of Mumbai's architectural heritage. It forms part of the Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensembles of Mumbai, which received UNESCO World Heritage recognition in 2018.

CSMVS also provides a cultural setting for exhibitions, educational activities, workshops, talks, and special programs. Its location in Kala Ghoda places it close to several other important cultural attractions, making the area a popular destination for people interested in art, history, architecture, and culture.
