Step into the world of How Does Your Garden Grow?, a contemporary theatre production that explores one of life's most personal questions: What does it really mean to build a family and nurture a life?
The play brings together eight people with different lives, choices, desires, and dilemmas. As their stories intersect, they face questions about parenthood, relationships, family expectations, personal freedom, and the pressure to follow paths chosen by society.
At the centre of the production is the idea of choice. Some characters long for children, while others question whether parenthood is right for them. Some explore adoption or alternative paths to building a family. Their experiences show that there is no single way to create a meaningful life.
The characters come from very different backgrounds. Bulbul sees motherhood as an opportunity for a new life. Mohanraj longs for an heir. Kabir, a landscape horticulturist, learns that relationships also need care and attention. Arya discovers that even a carefully created life can change in unexpected ways. Jai, a sustainable architect and single father, faces questions about his choices, while Sowmya begins to rethink ideas she once accepted without question. Meher and Raaga face their own deeply personal questions as their stories unfold.
Rather than giving easy answers, How Does Your Garden Grow? invites audiences to think about why people make certain choices and why society often feels entitled to judge them. Recent coverage of the production describes its larger inquiry as being about choice and purpose, making the play relevant to anyone who has ever questioned what they truly want from life.
The production uses contemporary theatre and an ensemble-driven approach to bring these different stories together. The result is an engaging and reflective experience that combines personal stories with larger questions about family, identity, expectations, and freedom.
