Aparihaaryataa – Something That Is Bound To Happen is an original Gujarati dance-theatre production written and directed by Mahek Soni, exploring one of the most universal yet difficult human experiences — grief.
At the heart of the story is Aasha, a fifteen-year-old girl who is suddenly forced to confront a world that feels unfamiliar after experiencing the loss of someone she loves. What begins as an attempt to understand death gradually becomes a deeply personal journey through memory, emotions, acceptance and the many faces of grief.
Aparihaaryataa looks beyond the moment of loss to explore what happens afterward. It follows the emotional journey of a young person trying to understand absence, memories and the reality of moving forward while still carrying someone within you.
The production blends theatre with the expressive traditions of semi-classical dance, allowing movement to communicate emotions that can sometimes be difficult to express through dialogue alone. Every gesture, expression and movement contributes to the storytelling.
Music, movement and visual elements work together to create an immersive theatrical experience. Rather than presenting grief only through spoken words, the production uses multiple artistic forms to explore the emotional landscape of loss.
At its core, Aparihaaryataa is also a story about love. Grief exists because someone mattered, and memories remain because relationships leave an imprint on our lives.
The production invites audiences to reflect on the connection between love, loss, memory and letting go.
Grief is not experienced in exactly the same way by everyone. Through Aasha's journey, the production explores the changing emotions that can accompany loss and the gradual process of understanding and accepting what has happened.
Beyond the performance itself, the project aims to encourage meaningful conversations around grief, mental wellness, healing, resilience and human connection.
Aparihaaryataa brings together different artistic disciplines to create a performance where storytelling is expressed through dialogue, dance, music and visual language.
The result is an experience designed not simply to tell a story, but to invite audiences to feel, reflect and connect with its central themes.
Aparihaaryataa combines theatre with the expressive traditions of semi-classical dance, creating a performance where movement, acting and storytelling work together to communicate emotions that words cannot always express.
The production takes audiences through the emotional journey of grief and explores how people respond to the loss of someone they love. It offers a thoughtful perspective on an experience that is deeply human and universal.
At the heart of the story is 15-year-old Aasha, who suddenly finds herself facing a world that feels unfamiliar after a death. Following her journey allows audiences to experience grief through the eyes of a young person trying to understand an overwhelming change.
Rather than depending only on dialogue, Aparihaaryataa uses dance and movement as a language of emotion. Each gesture and movement contributes to the storytelling, making the performance visually expressive and immersive.
The production brings together theatre, dance, music and visual expression to create a layered performing-arts experience. These elements work together to communicate memories, emotions and the gradual process of healing.
Beyond the story of loss, the production encourages conversations around grief, mental wellness, healing, resilience and human connection. It offers audiences an opportunity to reflect on emotions that are often difficult to discuss openly.
Loss is something that can touch every family and community. Aparihaaryataa creates space to recognise the different ways people experience grief while reminding us of the love and relationships behind that grief.
The performance explores an important emotional idea: letting go does not necessarily mean forgetting. Through Aasha's journey, audiences are invited to consider how memories and love can continue even after someone is gone.
Aparihaaryataa is an original dance-theatre production created by emerging artists, offering audiences an opportunity to experience an original story that uses Indian performance traditions to explore a contemporary human subject.
This is more than an evening of entertainment. It is a performance designed to encourage reflection, conversation and emotional connection.
